The 4,544-TEU Maersk Gironde collided with the 6,500 CEU SFL Composer cargo carrier near Sejero Island on August 4, reports Rotterdam's WorldCargo News.
The incident occurred at 23:16 near the entrance to the deepwater route at Hatter Barn. The Singapore-flagged Maersk Gironde was sailing from Wilhelmshaven to Gdansk. The Liberian-flagged SFL Composer was en route from Emden to Odense.
Maersk confirmed no crew injuries, cargo damage or pollution. The Gironde sustained structural damage and is anchored west of Zealand awaiting clearance to proceed. Maersk said it is cooperating with authorities and internal investigations are underway.
The Danish Maritime Authority detained both vessels for inspection. It reported no oil spills or injuries and stated that the SFL Composer is being towed to Lindo shipyard for repairs Damage assessments are pending from flag States and classification societies.
